Peran Masjid sebagai Pusat Pembinaan Umat di Masyarakat Modern

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of the mosque as a center for community development within the dynamics of modern society, which continues to experience rapid social, cultural, and technological changes. The mosque functions not only as a place of worship but also as a center for religious education, a social space, and a platform for economic empowerment. This research employed a qualitative approach using field study methods, including observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving mosque administrators, congregation members, and community leaders. The findings indicate that the mosque continues to play a significant role in religious development through various programs such as Qur’an learning sessions, tafsir and hadith studies, thematic lectures, and religious learning circles attended by multiple age groups. In the social dimension, the mosque fulfills its role through community-support activities including zakat distribution, charity programs, assistance for orphans and the needy, and other social services aimed at strengthening community solidarity. Additionally, several mosques have begun utilizing digital technology to expand their outreach through social media and live-streamed religious lectures, although implementation remains limited by human resources and digital literacy constraints. The study also identifies several challenges, including limited funding, suboptimal management, and low youth participation. Despite these obstacles, strong commitment from mosque administrators, supportive congregations, and a religious social environment act as key enabling factors. Overall, the mosque holds substantial potential to continue evolving as an adaptive and relevant religious and social institution in the modern era.
