Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of thematic learning based on the Love Curriculum as an effort to foster caring and empathetic character among elementary school students. The Love Curriculum is understood as an instructional approach that emphasizes affection, compassion, and meaningful human relationships throughout the learning process. This research employs a qualitative method with a case study design, involving teachers and elementary students as the primary participants. Data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques. The findings reveal that the implementation of thematic learning based on the Love Curriculum is carried out through the integration of love and empathy values in every stage of the learning process—from the introductory activities to the closing reflections. Teachers consistently utilize positive emotional stimuli, reflective discussions, collaborative learning, and affection-based media to strengthen students’ understanding of caring and empathy. Field observations show that students demonstrate increased social sensitivity, improved ability to recognize others’ feelings, and greater willingness to express care and provide emotional support in everyday interactions. This study concludes that thematic learning based on the Love Curriculum effectively contributes to developing caring and empathetic character among elementary students. This approach not only supports the achievement of cognitive learning goals but also nurtures students’ social and emotional competencies as essential elements of character formation. Therefore, the Love Curriculum can serve as a relevant and applicable alternative for character-based learning strategies in elementary education
