Abstract

This study aims to analyze the integration of character education and basic PGMI knowledge in the learning process at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI). The background of this research is the importance of developing Islamic character from an early age alongside academic competency, which forms the foundation for student development. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design to gain an in-depth understanding of the practice of character education integration in learning. The research site was purposively selected at an MI that has implemented character-based and PGMI-integrated learning. Informants include classroom teachers, PGMI teachers, school principals, and students, selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and document studies, and analyzed using qualitative descriptive techniques, including data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing.

The results indicate that character education is integrated through the application of Islamic values such as discipline, responsibility, cooperation, empathy, social care, honesty, and religiosity in all learning activities. Teachers employ integrated thematic learning strategies, storytelling, group discussions, educational games, and visual media, alongside humanistic approaches and positive motivation. The impact of this integration is evident in the improved behavior of students, including greater discipline, responsibility, social care, and the ability to internalize character values in daily life, while also enhancing academic mastery. The study concludes that the integration of character education and basic PGMI knowledge at MI effectively develops students who are academically proficient, morally upright, and possess strong Islamic values.
