Abstract

The background to this research stems from the importance of diagnostic assessment as a first step in identifying students’ abilities, difficulties, and needs in learning Aqidah Akhlak (Islamic Creed) in Islamic Elementary Schools (MI). In the era of the Independent Curriculum (Curriculum Merdeka), diagnostic assessment plays a strategic role in helping teachers adapt the learning process to student characteristics to achieve optimal learning outcomes. This study aims to analyze the role of diagnostic assessment in improving the quality of Aqidah Akhlak learning in MI. The research method used was a qualitative case study approach, through interviews, observation, and documentation. The results show that diagnostic assessment helps teachers design appropriate, engaging, and tailored learning strategies to students’ learning needs. The impact is seen in increased student participation, understanding of moral values, and learning motivation. In conclusion, the implementation of diagnostic assessment plays a crucial role in creating effective, adaptive Aqidah Akhlak learning  that  aligns  with  the  principles  of  the  Independent  Curriculu
