Abstract

The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has significantly transformed the educational landscape, particularly in supporting learning innovation that promotes twenty-first-century competencies. One of the essential competencies is Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS), which include critical thinking, analytical reasoning, evaluation, creativity, and problem-solving abilities. This study aims to analyze the integration of Artificial Intelligence in learning and examine its contribution to improving students' Higher Order Thinking Skills. The research employed a qualitative approach using a library research method. The data were collected from scholarly journal articles, books, conference proceedings, and academic documents related to Artificial Intelligence, digital learning, and Higher Order Thinking Skills. Data collection was conducted through documentation techniques, while data analysis applied content analysis consisting of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the integration of Artificial Intelligence creates a more adaptive, interactive, and student-centered learning environment through the use of adaptive learning systems, generative AI, educational chatbots, and intelligent learning platforms. AI contributes positively to the development of students' critical thinking, analytical reasoning, evaluation, creativity, and problem-solving skills. The successful implementation of AI is influenced by teachers' digital competencies, appropriate pedagogical strategies, and adequate technological infrastructure. Nevertheless, several challenges remain, including unequal technological access, limited digital literacy, and ethical concerns regarding AI utilization. Therefore, collaboration among teachers, educational institutions, and policymakers is essential to optimize the implementation of Artificial Intelligence as an innovative learning tool capable of enhancing educational quality and fostering students' Higher Order Thinking Skills in the era of digital transformation.
