Pergeseran Otoritas Tafsir Al-Qur'an: Analisis Epistemologi Penafsiran di Era Digital

The rapid advancement of digital technology, particularly Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), has significantly transformed how Muslims access, understand, and interpret the Qur'an. Traditionally, the authority of Qur'anic interpretation resided in qualified exegetes possessing expertise in Arabic linguistics, Qur'anic sciences, legal theory, and established interpretive methodologies. Today, however, AI-powered digital platforms provide instant explanations of Qur'anic verses, raising critical epistemological questions regarding interpretive authority, methodological validity, and the position of AI in Islamic knowledge production. This study aims to examine the shift in Qur'anic interpretive authority in the digital era and analyze the epistemological implications of Generative AI in contemporary Qur'anic interpretation. Employing a qualitative library research approach, the study draws upon classical Qur'anic exegesis, Islamic epistemology, digital religion studies, and recent scholarship on Artificial Intelligence in Islamic studies. Data were analyzed using content analysis and epistemological analysis. The findings indicate that Generative AI does not replace the role of qualified exegetes but functions as a knowledge mediator that reshapes the distribution, accessibility, and production of religious knowledge. The observed shift represents not a complete transfer of authority from humans to machines but rather a transformation from individual-centered authority toward digitally mediated knowledge ecosystems. Consequently, this study proposes the reconstruction of Qur'anic interpretive epistemology that positions AI as an assistive analytical tool while maintaining interpretive validity through the principles of Qur'anic sciences, scholarly competence, methodological rigor, source transparency, and academic verification.
